I Love Comic-Sans

Comic-sans and Papyrus are approved by the Vatican. You can use them safely without fear of sin.

There was a time when Comic Sans was considered mud. It was lazy, cringe, and ugly. I don't think public opinion has changed much, but my opinion has. I remember being in 7th grade science class. That year my school district thought it was a great idea to implement "project based learning". Instead of a bunch of standardized multiple-choice tests we would be assigned a group and we would have to work on a project for that particular unit IN ADDITION TO a standardized test. It would have been a good idea if they dropped the tests and if the kids who didn't do anything for 3 weeks could be failed. I'd like to think I was apart of the first generation of "Chromebook" students. That in combination with project-based learning went about as well as you might think. I digress. My science teacher announced half-way through the year that we were not to use comic-sans. I didn't understand why. Naturally, I changed the font of our google - doc and our power points to use comic-sans. I wanted a reaction. I got one after I turned in our work. He giggled, pulled me aside and asked me to not do that again. He was rather stern. I complied. I then learned that people hated comic-sans. Years went by and I forgot about comic-sans. If the font entered my mind it was because I saw it in public and remembered that I hated it. It was a stupid font. Did I actually dislike it? Whose to say. I was told it was bad and that it would only upset people. I was but a wee lad during the days of web 1.0. I wasn't even alive for most of it. I came of age towards the end of that era. I remember when my family got good internet in 2010.

There was hatred for comic-sans and it went like this: comic-sans was inspired by comics. It was created by microslop. It was used in programs designed for kids. Corporate monkeys hate it because its unprofessional.

I never knew of the condemnation of comic-sans. There were movements to try and ban it. Then artists started using it ironically.

It seems that nobody talks about comic-sans anymore. I feel that we will come around to liking comic-sans again. In the era of AI graphics, people have begun to appreciate "bad" graphics.

Now and then, I will see comic-sans in the wild. In fact, I hope that I will see it in public almost everyday. I love comic-sans. Its silly. Its ridiculous. Its hilarious even. I don't care if its in poor taste. Yes there are better fonts, blah, blah, blah. Its not that serious. If you see it you know a human made it because a chatbot is not likely to use something that is universally disliked. You would have to include "use comic-sans" in the prompt and even then it probably wouldn't look right. I'm sure of it.

Only a human-being could produce something so hated and polarized.
